18 Day Yangtze Cruise & Tibet Odyssey

Tour Testimonials

I would heartily recommend China Spree and hope to use their services again to visit areas we did not see this time and to spend more time in some of the places we did visit. They do an excellent job of balancing the time available with the many things there are to see. The guides were all well informed, and enthusiastic about sharing their knowledge and we concerned to do what they could to make our trip a great one.

CS: Was there a particular highlight of your China trip you wish to share?

Answer: There were so many it's hard to pick one highlight. Tibet was amazing but the entire trip was one wonderful experience after another.

CS: Comment on your tour guides

Answer: Kevin was outstanding. He went out of his way to help when my husband left his tablet on one of the flights. We are still amazed that it was returned. I can't think of any way Kevin could have done a better job.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: Go!I was not enthusiastic about going to China but my husband wanted to go. So many of my perceptions and thoughts about China were incorrect and I am happy to have learned so many things about this amazing country. I would definitely go back and would like to go to some of the areas we didn't see. I would like to spend more time in Chengdu in particular.

Our trip to China was great. China Spree did a great job organizing and taking care of us. We loved getting to experience things we had heard about first hand. The Great Wall is amazing. Learning about the culture first hand is the only way to really understand it. There was a lot packed into our 18 days but we had a good group to travel with. Anyone going on this tour needs to be in good physical shape to really take advantage of all it offers.

CS: Was there a particular highlight of your China trip you wish to share?

Answer: The Great Wall was our favorite - not too busy and we could enjoy it on our own. Seeing the terracotta warriors was also a unique experience we enjoyed.

CS: Comment on your tour guides

Answer: Jim Mao was always available, helpful, friendly, knowledgeable, and humble. Local guides were always busy trying to make sure we were taken care of. We were not sure they even got to eat sometimes. I want to thank our guide (Jim) for arranging a birthday cake on my birthday - that was so thoughtful!

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: Go with an open mind, a healthy body, and enjoy your trip.

Excellent tour. The guides and organization were outstanding. Thank you for a life-time experience.

CS: Was there a particular highlight of your China trip you wish to share?

Answer: Jim, our guide was exceptional! He made everything run smoothly! The terra-cotta warriors were the highlight of my trip.

CS: Comment on your tour guides

Answer: Jim has incredible communication skills! Was very patient and kind. Never lost his cool, even in trying circumstances. Very well organized! My mother was very slow and he was very patient with us and her individual abilities. I could not have asked for a better guide.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: Understand that this is a fast paced trip - not for anyone that is not physically fit. This group had a variety of physical fitness levels, which I am sure made it difficult for some, in terms of having to wait for slower travelers. Perhaps group slower travelers with slower travelers.

I was very pleased with China Spree. Our National Guide Felix was an incredible young man, so attentive and caring and genuinely friendly. He had great knowledge of Chinese History and Culture. His organizational skills and attention to detail never failed to amaze me. He didn't miss a beat when it came to any aspect of the tour. He solved issues BEFORE they even happened! The local guides were all really good and knowledgeable, especially Yongde in Tibet and Linda in Xian and Tony in Shanghai. The "in home" experiences in Tibet and Beijing were great, so different from what other tours offer. No pressure for shopping!! Just 2 planned shopping trips. In fact, our group even ASKED to be given time to shop in Tibet as the tour was so jam packed that we were afraid we were going to have to leave without time to buy souvenirs. Felix/Yongdee were great and even asked us for permission to take us shopping. Of course, we all agreed!!

CS: What's the number one way your National Guide could have improved your experience? if you rated him or her as 'excellent', Please tell us why.

Answer: Felix was an incredible guide. The attention to detail and genuine caring he demonstrated was absolutely unbelievable to me. We had a man who was very sick, and he paid so much attention to him, genuinely cared about him and all of his clients. He has great knowledge of Chinese history and culture, and his ability to organize and plan was outstanding. He even made sure we all got wake up calls!!

Our trip with China Spree was fantastic from start to finish! My family on the trip included my mother (in her 60's), my young cousin (13 years), and myself (30 years) so I can honestly say this was a great trip for all ages. The trip was extremely well organized, accommodations were excellent, and guides exceeded expectations in terms of knowledge and helpfulness.

CS: Was there a particular highlight of your China trip you wish to share?

Answer: Tibet was a fantastic experience and a definite highlight as was getting to hug a panda in Chengdu!

CS: Comment on your tour guides

Answer: Clevin went above and beyond expectation to ensure the entire group had a great trip. He arranged doctors and medical care for travelers in the group who fell ill, made my 13 year old cousin's dream of hugging a panda come true by taking us on the excursion himself, helped us to file a police report when one of my traveling companions lost her cell phone, and countless other examples. As a company, you should definitely hang on to him!

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: Having traveled extensively in Europe, the Middle East, and other destinations in Asia, I would say China is a must see! The history and monuments are spectacular and the people are very welcoming to foreigners.

CS: Was there a particular highlight of your China trip you wish to share?

Answer: Including Tibet was definitely a highlight for me.

CS: Comment on your tour guides

Answer: Clevin was consistently as positive as he was pleasant. He was always ready to offer extra help if needed. On two occasions he went out of his way to assist us. First he took us separately to be able to hold the pandas and have our pictures taken. Also he took us (after a long day) on the subway when wanted to go to a certain shopping center. We had only asked him to put us in a cab which he could have done, but instead he took us to where we wanted to go which was above and beyond what we expected him to do. The tour guides did not make us feel rushed in any way. Note: the guide we had in Chongqing before boarding the river cruise was very very good. He did not come on the cruise with us.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: ChinaSpree offers a quality trip for a very very reasonable price. I would recommend them very highly. I would definitely consider them for future trips.

At first glance, the tour cost may seem a bit cost prohibitive. However, when one considers the airfare (Transpacific and several internal flights), national guide and local guides, buses and drivers, meals, entrance fees to attractions, boat cruise and five star accommodations, then one gets very good value for their money.

CS: Was there a particular highlight of your China trip you wish to share?

Answer: The Great Wall was great.

CS: Comment on your tour guides

Answer: Clevin looked after us like a mother hen with chicks. He had to deal with a sick lady who, with her husband, left the tour after about 3 days. He also looked after some medical concerns people had in Lhasa. He made arrangements for some people to go shopping instead of following the itinerary. Clevin was very concerned about everyone. He did an excellent job and we greatly enjoyed his company.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: I would certainly recommend China Spree to potential travelers. China Spree provided top notch service.

We normally travel on our own and were leery of the tour experience, but were a little afraid to tackle China and Tibet on our own. We did a lot of research before I pulled the trigger and booked this tour because the price was so great. But China Spree more than exceeded our expectations. Every moment of our trip was packed with fascinating tours, great food and interesting people. One of the best decisions of my life.

CS: Was there a particular highlight of your China trip you wish to share?

Answer: Great Wall, Potala in Tibet.

CS: Other comments on your local guide.

Answer: We had a member of our group who became quite ill in Lhasa and she was also quite difficult. Tenzin worked hard to get her to a hospital and back to Beijing even though she was not very cooperative. I was also especially impressed with his knowledge base.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: If you are over there, do Tibet if possible. Fascinating place. Great people.

Our China Spree experience exceeded our expectations. Everything was so well organised...transportation, meals, visits ( which are nicely varied...the Great Wall, the pandas, stops at local families, the Yangtze cruise...) The hotels in mainland China were unbelievable and the Lhasa experience unforgettable. And our main guide, Betty Cui, was the icing on the cake... knowledgeable, sociable, caring, pleasant and very well organised. Highly recommended!!

Our overall experience was excellent from our first contact with China Spree through our departure for home. Our National Guide, Edward, was fantastic and made every effort to make our trip enjoyable. The accommodations in general were first rate. China Spree has several different itineraries. We chose the 18 day Yangtze Cruise and Tibet Odyssey and were very pleased with our choice. We would not hesitate to recommend China Spree to anyone.

CS: Was there a particular highlight of your China trip you wish to share?

Answer: The spectacular weather when visiting the Great Wall enhanced our visit, allowing for great views in all direction. Shanghai was much more interesting and exciting than anticipated.

CS: What's the number one way your National Guide could have improved your experience? if you rated him or her as 'excellent', Please tell us why.

Answer: Edward was very conscientious and was constantly checking to see if anyone needed anything. He was very open in sharing his family experiences and insights into the Chinese culture. He went out of his way to help make arrangements for a couple in our group who had to leave early due to ill health.

CS: Please list the hotels you like BEST and LEAST, and specify why?

Answer: Beijing and Shanghai were the best. Most had excellent rooms. But the locations of the two Marriott's made them stand out. We were near the old city wall in Beijing and able to visit the museum in our free time. And the Shanghai hotel was near Peoples' Park, Subway, Shanghai Museum and East Nanjing Rd which made it very convenient.

CS: In your opinion, how many good meals did you have during your trip? Could you please list them in order from 1 to 10 (1 is the best) to the best of your memory?

Answer: The farewell meal in Shanghai was especially good as was the dinner in Chongqing.

China Spree offers the most experiences in China with a greater value than other companies we have used. The facilities were always the best to be found in the local areas.

CS: Was there a particular highlight of your China trip you wish to share?

Answer: Our national guide Betty Cui was fabulous. She anticipated, recognized and fulfilled our every need. And she did it with a smile.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: Our China experience left us with a warm feeling about the Chinese people and a good feeling about the country as well. There is so much to see and appreciate.

China Spree is very organized. They take care of you from the moment you arrive at the airport until you leave. In a country where you cannot read an information or understand the language, this assistance is very reassuring. They provide excellent information prior to your trip and through your whole trip when you get there. They need to improve on two areas: meals and and "forced shopping stops". All other points are excellent.

CS: What material and information should China Spree have provided to better prepare you for your trip?

Answer: I want to applaud you for what you provide. Your check list was extremely useful. So, I believe you are doing a great job providing info prior to our trip.

CS: Comment on your tour guides

Answer: Wei Li is: 1. Caring. He is always concerned with the welfare of each member of the group. 2. Service oriented: He tries to provide services that are not his responsibility like take us to a ATM to withdraw money (after we have made many attempts without success), ascertain that we are provided with different food (we have some food restriction, etc.) 3. Always on time: He was never late. 4. Patient: When one of the group members was late or had a problem. I could go on and on, but he is a real jewel of a guide. Please, don't lose him.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: Go and visit China now, because in a few years the old China will disappear and what you will find there will be a civilization very similar to the Western one.

We are extremely pleased that we made the decision to go with China Spree for our trip to China. We had never heard of them before we began planning for the trip, however, we kept seeing positive comments over and over on different travel sites. As we compared them to other companies, we really liked what they offered.....a wide variety of itineraries, smaller tour groups, a national tour guide, excellent accomodations and a tremendous overall value. And they delivered. If we ever do another trip to China, they will be our choice.

CS: Was there a particular highlight of your China trip you wish to share?

Answer: There were so many highlights, it would be impossible to pick just one......visiting the Forbidden City, walking on the Great Wall, visiting the Hutongs, seeing the Terracotta Warriors, visiting the Giant Pandas, climbing the Potala Palace, cruising on the Yangtze and seeing Shanghai at night.....too many to choose. One of the real highlights was learning more about the people and their culture.....we have a much different understanding than we did previously.

CS: Comment on your tour guides

Answer: Kevin did an outstanding job. He was very knowledgeable and informative, has a great attention to detail, and kept everything on pace making any adjustments as needed along the way. He has a great deal of pride in his country and in his job. He not only speaks very good English but has a real grasp of the language. He is always upbeat and demonstrated a real compassion for people. Great sense of humor and a good story teller. We would highly recommend him to anyone. We were pleased with the local guides. Pema in Lhasa and Lin in Beijing were especially good.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: If you are considering a trip to China...do it. It is an amazing country.....and China Spree does a tremendous job showing it all to you. The itinerary is very well planned, their guides are extremely knowledgeable, accomodations are great, meals are well planned and introduce you to a multitude of chinese cuisines and the overall experience is tremendous.

Answer: Loved the Marriott hotels because they had beautiful swimming pools so that I could swim every morning. Breakfast buffets were really good and started our day on the right foot.

I hereby propose that China Spree adopts a new slogan based on our experience with Ming Li (Yangtze Cruise & Tibet Odyssey-CS130420YT). Ming did an exemplary job of presenting the life and culture of China while juggling the innumerable tasks that went on behind the scenes. Often members of our group described Ming's great efficiency by saying: "She's makes the very difficult look effortless." Ming always went over and beyond what was required to ensure that our trip was pleasant, exciting, and educational. We have a whole new appreciation for Chinese culture, everyday Chinese life, and modern China through Ming's delightfully personal yet very professional work as our guide. So I herby propose the following slogan for China Spree to be used with any assignment that is of supreme importance and that absolutely must be done well. It is a variation of the the expression "Ding ding hao" that we learned on our trip. China Spree's new slogan: "Ming, Ming hao!" Thank you, China Spree, for organizing the trip of a lifetime for us. I will personally recommend you to anyone who expresses an interest in a trip to China.

Sincerely yours,

Judy B

Wilson and your entire team....

We will respond to the survey later, but just wanted to thank all the folks at ChinaSpree for a fantastic experience that GREATLY exceeded our high expectations. A special thanks goes out to Jayson Gao, the National Guide on our trip to China and Tibet. It was not only Jayson’s personality that made the trip terrific, but also his professionalism and ability to keep the group/trip on track. Everyone we encountered from the folks in Washington to all the local guides were most helpful, knowledgeable and people you wanted to talk to.

I’m a very experienced business traveler who has avoided tours for many years. Our physician, Dr. Gary xxxxx recommended China Spree, but I was very skeptical. Dr. xxxxx was right and I was in for a wonderful surprise. The China Spree trip was something special. Now I wish you folks had tours to other parts of the world. We’d be signing up for them. Please feel fee to use Winnie or me as a reference.

Best wishes for a great year and the success of your firm and people...

My friend and I returned home after spending 17 exhilarating days in China. This journey far exceeded my wildest expectations. The intinerary included big cities, "little" cities, villages, the Yangtze river and Tibet (which was like traveling back to the 16th century.) The remarkable aspect of the China Spree tour was the diversity of what we saw and what we did: yes, we visited ancient sites (The Great Wall and the Terra Cotta Warriors of Xian); we experienced the sheer magnitude of Beijing and Shanghai (both dwarf America's largest cities): but we also had the opportunity to have lunch in the home of a retired Chinese couple and visit a school in Tibet and we were welcomed into the home of a Tibetan family. From the day of arrival, to our departure, our tour manager, Lucy attended to every detail to make the journey comfortable. She was there to shepard us through airports, deal with traffic jams, and smooth out every minor problem. And the local guides provided us with a wealth of history and backround information which enhanced our experiences and made them very special. One cannot appreciate the transformation that is occuring all over China until you see it with your own eyes. It is amazing!

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: Seeing China today is like going back in time a thousand years, and at the very same time witness indescribeable change (a little like going from a rickshaw pulled by a person to high-speed rail transport in a brief moment of time). One caution: "China is not easy." This trip is physically demanding. (Lhasa,Tibet, is 12,000 feet above sea level.) If you are prepared to make effort, you will be rewarded with a journey you will not soon forget.

I did an obscene amount of research in choosing a China trip for both my grandmother and I to truly enjoy. I flipped through every brochure, scoured every website, compared every review I could get my hands on. We chose China Spree based on affordability and the list of features included. It proved to be one of the best travel decisions I've ever made. Our journey across China and Tibet could not have been more phenomenal. A great trip starts with the people. Jim Mao is a master of his craft. I cannot imagine a better guide. Charm, wit, knowledge, persistence and an infectious laugh, Jim had it all and he won us over immediately. The local guides followed his lead and they were all organized, informed, accommodating and patient. Our fellow travelers, too, were a wonderful group of smart, interesting people and it was a joy to share this experience with them. During my research, I wanted to find a tour that met the needs of a 27 year old as well as those of a 76 year old. I wanted authenticity, information, culture, comfort and fun. I wanted to avoid tourist traps, shopping and wasted time. I knew I wanted to interact with locals, get into the street markets, eat crazy foods, go out to the bars and drink with complete strangers and somehow get by without sleeping because I wanted to see as much as humanly possible in our 17 days there. I also knew my grandmother wanted the safety and comfort of those 5-star hotels, that she wanted to see folk shows and dancing, that she wanted to buy some souvenirs for her other grandkids and that she didn't ever want to be rushed or tired. In every sense, in meeting every want, need and requirement, China Spree delivered, exceedingly. They showed us an enormous country, its vast history, its promising future, its tireless people and their beautiful traditions... all of this, without so much as breaking a sweat. In all her years of traveling, my grandmother says she'd never had the pleasure of being on such a well-organized tour, with such expert and accommodating employees. She thanks me for finding China Spree and I'll forever thank them, Jim Mao, the local guides and all the people with us on the tour for making our trip as fantastic as it was.

CS: Comment on your Tour Manager, using rate 1-10 while 10 is the best

Answer: 10. 15 if possible. Jim was amazing. He cared about every person's individual needs and juggled that with the needs of the tour as a whole. Any problem that came up was addressed promptly and solved in no time at all. He helped a couple who had a health emergency the very first day and saw to it that they got proper care and got back to Beijing when they regrettably had to leave the tour. He handled lost baggage. He found me a memory card for my camera when I desperately needed one. He kept my grandmother company when she was too tired to walk around the temples in Tibet. We loved Jim and I would take another trip with him in a heartbeat.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: When traveling to China, there's China Spree... and then everybody else.

For the last five years I was dreaming about taking a trip to China but my wife would have none of it.. Because of her rheumatoid arthritis condition she was afraid to take such a long trip, especially to remote Tibet. She also had misgivings about the number of inter-China flights during the tour. This year I was finally close to talking her into taking the trip but she made it conditional and wanted some of our family to go with us. I was able to persuade our daughter and her husband as well as my sister to join us on this trip. So now we were five people agreeable to make the trip. The question now was what tour group would we go with. I had already done considerable research on the internet looking for a suitable tour company. After months of searching I narrowed it down to China Spree and xxxxx xxxxx. I did not know either of the two companies but I knew that if I chose the wrong company I would have to answer to the other four members of my family. I read many, if not all, of the testimonials for both companies. I compared itineraries as well as costs. I finally chose China Spree over xxxxx xxxxx since I felt that a new company would do their best to deliver on their promises and give us the most for our money. We all took the trip and as it turned out we were not disappointed and all had a very enjoyable trip. China Spree really and truly delivered all and more that they had promised. My wife's fears and misgivings turned out to be unwarranted. Even though my wife and I are in our early seventies, we were able to keep up with the rest of the group. Tibet, which had worried by wife became one of the most favorite places and everyone was very glad that it was part of the itinerary. The trip went like clockwork. Everything was so well planned and organized that the waiting around was kept to a bare minimum. Everyone connected with our trip did their utmost and performed to the best of their abilities. Our national guide Jim Mao was the greatest. He deserves a 20 on the scale of 1 to 10. He was always looking for ways to make the whole trip an unforgettable experience for all of us. He really exceeded in this endeavor. He deserves a lot of credit for this wonderful and enjoyable trip that we were able to take. From the moment we stepped off the plane in Beijing to the point we said our good-bye's in the Shanghai airport (after taking the incredible MagLev train we were put at ease and knew and felt that we were in good hands and well taken care of by Jim. Jim is the greatest. All the local guides were very good and knowledgeable as well as very helpful in all respects. We were amazed how well they spoke the English language without ever having travelled outside of China. They were all amazing. We have travelled a lot but mostly in Europe and always on our own. We did not know what to expect travelling with a tour group. We must say that we were really pleasantly surprised on how well the the trip went for all of us. My family of five could not come up with any criticism on anything which says a lot of how the entire trip was handled and carried out. I had redeemed myself with my family members by having chosen China Spree and all agreed that we could not have done better. We were given a new cultural experience in a large and very interesting country that was most enjoyable and changed our impression of China completely and mostly for the better. We all were very glad that we had chosen to take this trip with China Spree. We certainly will not have any problems or reluctance to recommend China Spree to other members of our family , to friends and other aquaintances or whoever may be planning a trip to China. Well done, China Spree. Keep up that good work.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: Go ahead and check out as many tour companies as you like and then compare them to China Spree. If you do your reasearch thoroughly we are sure that in the end you will decide on China Spree just like we did. You will be in for an unforgettable experience.

My wife and I have taken many tours and have traveled over every continent except Antarctica. We have never had a tour as well-managed as this trip to China and Tibet by China Spree. All of the tour guides were excellent and the national tour guide went out of his way to help us and inform us in every way possible. We saw remarkable sights in China and Tibet and stayed at excellent hotels. We always had an abundance and a great variety of food. All questions were always answered in a pleasant manner and each member of the tour group was treated with great respect. In addition, we found the people of China and Tibet whom we met in traveling to be most cordial and helpful. Certainly, this tour by China Spree offers the greatest quality at the most economical price and you always stay in excellent hotels with excellent food. It remains Number 1 on our list of many tours we have taken.

CS: Based on your experience from this trip what would you like to say to potential travelers to China?

Answer: China is a great country with many unusual sights, with an incredibly long and interesting history. Its economy is growing, the cities and countryside are modernizing, and its facilities are very comfortable for the American traveler. The toilet facilities may not always be the most amenable for American traveler but generally they are quite adequate. The Chinese people are friendly, seem genuinely fond of Americans, and were personally helpful to us on any occasion in which we needed their help. They seemed as eager to learn about Americans as we were to learn about them. Unfortunately, their larger cities are acquiring some of the same traffic problems that we have in the U.S. However, China continues to find solutions to their traffic problems as their construction of subways, freeways, and bypasses around the city illustrate. Go to China and Tibet with China Spree and you will treasure the experience.
